And while there does seem to be ample reason why people would already be making that wager, there is also the danger of overhyping the role too early on. There has been significant talk as of late regarding Phoenix’s Oscar potential for his work as the Joker. Jack Nicholson played the Clown Prince of Crime prior to that in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, while Jared Leto brought the character to life in 2016's Suicide Squad (and took extreme measures of his own to prepare for the role). He's the latest respected actor to take on the role, with the late Heath Ledger even taking home an Oscar for his performance as the character in director Christopher Nolan's 2008 Batman film, The Dark Knight. The actor also had to follow a very grueling method, due to his age, now that he is 44 years old. Speaking on this further, he told Kimmel: It was.
